  2. critic. Her poetry is both subjective and
  3. political, concerned with female
  4. consciousness, peace, and gay rights. Her
  5. works include On Lies, Secrets and Silence
  6. 1979 and The Fact of a Doorframe: Poems
  7. Selected and New 1984. In the 1960s her
  8. poetry was closely involved with the student
  9. and antiwar movements in the USA but since
  10. then she has concentrated on women's issues.
  11. In 1974, when given the National Book Award,
  12. she declined to accept it as an individual,
  13. but with Alice Walker and Audrey Rich
  14. accepted it on behalf of all women.
